I have been doing blogging more than 10 years, and one of the things that I have learned throughout my blogging journey is:
“Mistakes and failure are the stepping stone to becoming a successful blogger”
It all depends on how you reflect, learn, and grow from your own mistakes.
However, you don’t need to make the same mistakes to learn from them.
This post will cover the 7 common blogging mistakes that millions of newbie bloggers make when they are getting started.
So let’s jump right into the mistakes and help you save your time and energy in doing the wrong thing that won’t give you any results.
7 Mistakes to Avoid as newbie blogger
Have you ever heard the quote “Making mistakes is not a problem but repeating the same mistakes again and again is the biggest problem”
To be honest I live with this quote, here is the reason.
When I started blogging, I didn’t know many things like you guys, but one thing that remains constant with me is the learning attitude.
I am always eager to learn, I have made many mistakes in many blogging journeys but I never ignore them and feel bad about it.
I always learn from my mistakes that is the reason I can become successful in my field and sustain it for more than 10 years.
Here is a list of the mistakes to avoid as a beginner blogger.
Self-doubt
It’s the most common mistake that most new bloggers make before they even start their journey.
They start doubting their niche whether it will work or not or whether it’s just a waste of time.
To be honest I have been there and I know how it feels but doubting yourself or your niche will not help you succeed in blogging.
In these ten years of blogging one of the things that I have noticed is:
“Self-doubt has killed many blogs than Google update will ever will”
And most newbie bloggers get into this trap before someone judges them they start judging themselves and give statements like
- I am not skilled enough
- I cannot do this
- My niche is not right
- I cannot write content
But I want to ask one thing:
How many people are born with the skills?
Nobody right ?? All successful bloggers are newbies and they all learn from time and their mistakes from other people.
You are not an expectation, so stop making excuses and start working on building the necessary skills.
How to avoid this?
The simple solution to getting rid of self-doubt is to learn and gain knowledge the lack of the right knowledge is the measure reason for the self-doubt.
Focus on gaining the right knowledge and remember one thing everyone learns from mistakes so don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
Blog Design
It’s the next common blogging mistake that most newbie bloggers make, before writing a single blog post on their website.
They spend hours and hours designing the blog, but I want to ask the question:
Does designing blogs help you get visitors?
The simple answer is “no”, then it’s just a waste of time to design the blog when you don’t have the visitor on your site.
So what should you do instead?
The simple things that you need to do are to focus on learning the skills of writing the content and writing content that helps you attract visitors to your site and in the end helps you to make money from your blog.
How to avoid it
The only way to avoid this is to remember that you can only make money from your blog when your blog ranks and gets traffic and it will only get traffic when you start writing the content.
So focus on writing the content instead of changing the color of your blog designs.
Chasing everything best
It’s not the mistakes it’s a virus that most new bloggers have when they are getting started and I have made these mistakes too.
When I have started my blogging journey, I always used to be in the search for the best things, like
- Best plugin
- Best theme
- Best design
- Best Colour
One of the core reasons behind this;
Different people suggest differently and in the end, newbie bloggers get confused and change the theme, plugin, and design every day wasting their time and energy.
How to avoid this?
The only way to avoid this is to find the one right person and follow what he is teaching or you can analyze your competitor and do it accordingly but always follow one person, as it increases your chances of succeeding.
Reaching successful people in blogging
In my initial blogging days, I used to think that pro bloggers or successful bloggers knew something that I didn’t know there was some secret that they didn’t want to reveal.
I used to reach out to them and ask them for their secret but as a result, no one responded to me I felt hopeless and it just wasted my time and energy.
It is the story of every new blogger, every newbie thinks that there is some secret sort of shortcut that pro blogger know, that help them make thousands of dollar.
But the main problem is that most new bloggers don’t ask the right questions of people, they always ask about.
- Suggest to me the best niche
- Will this niche be good or not
- Can I use AI tools
And I know all these because I also get such kinds of queries, nowadays very less people are interested in learning the skills, all are just looking for the shortcuts that help them to make thousands of dollars in one day.
But after making 100 + sites, ranking them, and making money I found that there is no secret it’s hard work and the right mindset that separates the successful blogger from the unsuccessful one.
How to avoid :
Instead of reaching out to people for bits of advice, it’s better to first focus on building a strong foundation once you build a strong foundation you will understand how things work and that will help you to make money.
Content writing laziness
Every new blogger can relate to this :
When you are new to blogging you feel lazy to write the content, and this is the problem with every new blogger.
You know that you can write the content but due to laziness, you don’t write the content which leads you to the failure of the blog.
Because in the end blogging is all about the content and if you write the content, you will not be able to grow your blog.
How to avoid
The straightforward of this issue
- Don’t try to complete your article in one go
- Create the outline before writing the article
- Take a break when you feel lazy and write again
These are the ways that you can use to get rid of the content writing laziness issue and always remember that content writing is the core of blogging, the more you write the better you will become.
New Trend, New Blog, and New Focus
Another problem that I have seen with the new bloggers, they never stick with one thing and they always run after the trend.
This is the core reason for achieving success in blogging In the end they feel hopeless and demotivated.
Here is the main issue when you go with the trend, they compare themselves with other people, like
- If someone is making money from news blogs, they start making news blogs
- If someone is making money from web stories, they start making the web stories
- If someone is earning from event blogging they want to start the same
- If someone is getting traffic from Google Discover they want to do the same
They always get influenced by seeing the earning screenshots of people who don’t even have a basic understanding of blogging, and in most cases, you don’t even know whether they are making or faking it.
If you are a newbie in the blogging field, then these are the common blogging mistakes that you need to avoid as a beginner bloggers.
